Apple to Bring 2,000 Jobs to East Mesa

hamilton-zanze November 26, 2013

Apple is expanding into the Phoenix area, buying the now-vacant First Solar, Inc. building for its supplier, GT Advanced Technologies, Inc. The move will bringing 700 jobs to east Mesa, along with another 1,300 construction-related jobs to prepare the facility for production. This will be Apple’s first major presence in Arizona, and it comes two years after the tech giant first courted Phoenix as a location to build a facility before deciding on Austin.

Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer have drawn praise for landing the expansion, which is seen as a huge win for the region. Brewer commented, “Apple will have an incredibly positive economic impact for Arizona, and its decision to locate here speaks volumes about the friendly, pro-business climate we have been creating these past four years.”
