Kurt Houtkooper

Kurt Houtkooper is CEO of Hamilton Zanze (HZ), a multifamily real estate investment firm operating across the United States. Since joining the company in 2003, Kurt has structured investments representing more than $14 billion in asset value and helped grow HZ’s portfolio to 271 properties totaling over 25,000 units across 29 markets.

Kurt became CEO in 2022 after leading the company’s investment efforts for more than a decade. He is responsible for HZ’s long-term strategy, including the expansion of the firm’s investment platform, capital partnerships, and product offerings. He has guided HZ’s evolution from a regional multifamily syndicator to a national real estate investment firm with institutional-scale capabilities and a growing suite of investment products serving individual investors and institutional partners.

Under his leadership, HZ launched its first discretionary general partner fund in 2022 and the HZ Evergreen Fund in 2024. Kurt spearheaded the formation of Revere Housing, HZ’s affiliated multifamily investment and operating platform focused on major urban markets along the West Coast. He is also a founding principal of Mission Rock Residential, HZ’s national multifamily property management affiliate.

Beyond HZ, Kurt is a past president of the Redwood Hoops Club and serves on Tipping Point Community’s Leadership Council. He is also vice president of the Olympic Club Foundation.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and lives in Marin County with his wife and three daughters.
