ReadConstruction Firms to Add Jobs Nationwide
According to a survey of over 800 construction firms, 41% plan to add workers in 2014 while 2% are planning layoffs. In 2013, 23% of construction firms laid off workers. This increased confidence stems from an expected increase in construction demand in 10 out of 11 market segments for projects such as lodging, retail, offices, and manufacturing plants.
One of the greatest obstacles to fulfilling this demand will be finding qualified workers. Over 60% of the surveyed construction firms claim they are having difficulty filling certain key positions due to poor training programs for construction jobs and an increase in health insurance costs.
