In a study by WalletHub, the cities of Dallas, Austin, Seattle, Denver, Mesa, and Houston placed 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th, respectively, for the top cities in the U.S. to find a job.

Seattle also had the 5th highest median starting monthly salary at $3,317 and was the best city for jobs not located in the Southern U.S. Austin and Houston placed 3rd and 4th, respectively, for highest average annual income, while Denver had the 4th-fastest falling unemployment at -6.86%.

WalletHub used the following 13 metrics in its jobs study:

  1. Number of job opening
  2. Employment growth
  3. Unemployment rate trend
  4. Industry variety
  5. Part-time vs. full-time
  6. Employees living in poverty
  7. Health care coverage
  8. Starting salary
  9. Local cost of living
  10. Housing costs
  11. Income tax burden
  12. Time spent working and commuting
  13. Disability friendliness
