Aerospace Company to Create 2,100 Jobs in Colorado Springs

hamilton-zanze March 03, 2015

Nevada aerospace company Sierra Completions announced plans to build an $88-million hangar complex at the Colorado Springs, CO airport. Over the next five years, the project will employ over 2,100 workers at an average annual salary of $83,720 (nearly double the county average).

Sierra Completions’ expansion is notable for the market, which in recent years has struggled to diversify its economy. Colorado Springs’ economy relies heavily on the military sector, and potential cuts at Fort Carson have increased pressure to attract high-paying private employers to the area.

The company will receive $23.2 million in state incentives for the project, including tax breaks. Businesses selling, repairing, or maintaining aircraft within Colorado Springs’ commercial aeronautical zone are exempt from most city and county sales and use taxes.
