Annual effective rent growth was 5.5% nationally for Class B apartment properties in 2014 — the highest of any real estate asset class in the past two years, according to data from Axiometrics. Class A assets came in second with 4.7% growth, followed closely by Class C at 4.6%.

Last year, rent growth broke double-digits in six submarkets, including Denver, where average rent growth for Class B and Class C apartment properties approached 12%.

Several HZ markets made the top 30 metro areas for rent growth besides Denver, including Portland, Houston, Phoenix, Seattle, and Las Vegas.
